The innovative waste removal and disposal solution, the HIPPOBAG, has officially launched in supermarket giant Tesco. Customers are now able to purchase a HIPPOBAG from the Tesco Direct catalogue, buy online from www.tesco.com/direct, or order the product in-store at selected outlets.
Hippowaste is the trading name for Waste Management Systems Ltd, a national provider of innovative waste management. The company offers ethical, efficient, cost-effective methods to dispose of waste for domestic, business and trade users nationwide. Howard Capital Partners invested in the company two and a half years ago and is now a thriving operation with over 70 staff.
The HIPPOBAG alternative to a skip is the first waste and recycling product to be stocked by the supermarket chain and is an ideal fit with the Tesco "green" strategy and eco-friendly focus.
"Our research tells us that 48% of our customers would like to be able to buy their HIPPOBAG from a supermarket and 35% want to be able to buy online," said Lisa Fines, head of retail at HIPPOWASTE. "We are delighted to be able to respond to this demand and to be onboard with such a leading mainstream stockist. This is a very significant milestone for HIPPOWASTE and an important part of our retail strategy moving forward."
Since the product was launched in 2002, the HIPPOBAG has gained immediate enthusiastic support from major retailers, enabling the company to expand and roll out operations nationally at an incredibly fast rate. The product is now listed and carried in just short of 2000 leading DIY stores and builders' merchants nationwide.
The popularity of the HIPPOBAG amongst domestic householders as a flexible, practical alternative to a skip has contributed to a 70% increase in the amount of waste collected and subsequently recycled by the company so far in 2007 - more than the overall amount collected in 2006. The company also celebrated its 200,000th HIPPOBAG collection earlier this year.
