AT Jones of Fareham, a Howard Sandcliffe invested company, has completed a major £3 million contract for the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.
The company was responsible for all the walls and ceilings for the 39 new galleries at the museum, which will effectively double the existing display space.
AT Jones undertook internal construction, drylining, suspended ceilings and plastering work. Extensive work with mechanical and engineering contractors was necessary to ensure the complete integration of air conditioning and other vital services, due to the extremely old and valuable nature of the antiquities being housed in the new galleries.
Barry Beesley, AT Jones' Managing Director, says that some aspects of the project were challenging but rewarding. "We had to address a number of different technical issues. The contract incorporated a number of special design features primarily based around concealed and rebated finishes to provide a flush and seamless finish throughout the building. The main staircase, meanwhile, was curved and finished with a polished plaster."
"We are delighted to have worked on such a significant project. AT Jones is a major force in the interior fit out industry and since the acquisition by HSi three years ago, is expanding further and continually winning projects of this nature, during a difficult time in the industry."
