The Howard Property Group, who bought a prominent 6.5 acre commercial site in Haverhill in September last year, are now well under way with demolition of the redundant buildings.
The site, which fronts the main A143 through the centre of the town and just along from the Haverhill Leisure Centre redevelopment, was previously occupied by manufacturer Project Office Furniture.
HPG Developments are demolishing the 168,000 sq ft of redundant buildings in order to clear the site ready for future redevelopment. The consultation and planning process will begin shortly with the Local Planning Authority, potential occupiers and other stakeholders, prior to an application being made to redevelop the site.
"We are very pleased with progress on the site," says William Jewson, Development Director at HPG. "Demolition is on schedule and we are looking forward to redeveloping in due course. The site is a good long term investment for HPG and one that we plan to retain and manage for many years. Haverhill is an expanding town and is benefiting from major investment and development at the moment as demonstrated by the completion of the new cinema complex as well as the new Tesco superstore which is now on site."
Several hundreds of tons of materials will be extracted from the Haverhill site during the demolition. C A J Services are carrying out the demolition, dismantling and materials re-cycling. To reduce the amount of waste material disposed of, a continuing recycling program is in operation on the site where less than 5% of materials removed will go to landfill. Brickwork and concrete will be crushed and graded on site for use as sub-base fill material. Roof sections, timber, steel and other metals will be salvaged and removed for re-use, thus keeping the carbon footprint to a minimum.
