HOWARD GROUP ROWERS SHAPING UP WELL FOR NEW SEASON

January 2009

As part of the Howard Group's ongoing five year programme of financial assistance for Leander Club oarsmen and women to support them in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games, 3 world class rowers were presented training awards at the company's Fitzwilliam event held at the end of last year. Beneficiaries were Jane Hall, Tommy Burton and Tom Broadway.

The athletes are training hard and have just competed in the 2nd of the four main GB trials for the 2008/09 season. Tommy Burton and Tom Broadway were 2nd in the men's pairs trial, just behind another Leander pair.

Ian Lawson, a previous Howard Group beneficiary, was one of the 4 leading men's scullers, who all finished within 0.5 sec after more than 18 minutes rowing!

One of the earliest beneficiaries, Louisa Reeve, who competed in the 2007 World Championships and qualified to represent Great Britain at the Beijing Olympics, came 6th in the women's heavyweight sculls. Jane Hall was unable to compete due to illness.
