Tom Amies has been appointed Finance Director to The Howard Group.
He will join the company in January. His role will be to oversee and manage the Group's finance and accounting functions and he will be involved in the formulation and implementation of the Group's financial strategy. Tom will also have executive responsibility for Howard Capital Partners business and work alongside their business partners, in particular Howard Sandcliffe Investments (HSi), who recently acquired Great Shelford company Fenland Roofing.
Speaking of the appointment, Nicholas Bewes, MD at The Howard Group, commented; "We are delighted that Tom is joining the Group. He brings with him a wealth of experience gained over many years in the corporate finance sector. Tom joins the Group at a time when we are experiencing significant growth across all business sectors and he will be a very valuable and influential member of our senior management team."
Having originally trained as a Chartered Accountant at Deloitte, Tom most recently worked in the City for two years with Ernst & Young in their mergers and acquisitions unit at London Bridge. He was involved in many major deals including the £588m acquisition of Cory Environmental by Santander. More locally he advised Newmarket-based company Gene-Medix plc, who were acquired by Reliance Life Sciences.
Tom is no stranger to Cambridge, having graduated from Girton College in 1993. While at Cambridge, he stroked the winning Goldie boat in the 1991 Oxford v Cambridge Boat Race. He is still part of the Blues network and a member of the Hawks Club in Portugal Place. He rows regularly and competes in the annual 23 mile 'Vogalonga' race in Venice.
"I am looking forward to getting back on the Cam", says Tom. "It will be good to be back in Cambridge, as a student I used to cycle from Girton every morning to run around Parker's Piece before going weight training at Kelsey Kerridge. My new office at The Howard Group overlooks the Piece, so it will bring back some good memories of my student days! I am really looking forward to my challenging new role at The Howard Group. I wanted to move into a Finance Director role within a mid-sized organisation, to further my career path. I was attracted to the Group by the high quality team and financial strength of the Group. I am eager to bring my experience to the table. It is a very exciting time to be joining the company."
